”If I wanted a damned fool advising my son, I would have found one. Instead, it seems I’m surrounded by fools and I’m free to take my pick from the lot of you!” - Margerethe Cassian-Merov
Age: 42
Physique: She has a slender and very shapely hourglass figure, altogether comprising a very attractive woman even as compared to a lady twice younger. She bears piercing blue eyes, and silky smooth, golden blonde hair.
Temperment: Margerethe is known to be a very blunt woman with a sharp tongue and even sharper whit. During the reign of King Odo II, it was not altogether uncommon for her to be an open critic to his manic and overtly cruel actions, being one of the few to look him straight in the eye and dare him to touch her (for she knew full well that if he did, her brother Ferrus would decapitate him and string his corpse over the battlements of Pyracle’s palace walls). It was due to this unbreakable spirit that she had successfully secured the respect of a surprising amount of people in the revolutionary court of her son, King Arno VI, with some viewing her as one of the few people within the royalist camp that stood for her principles amidst the general madness that prevailed. In truth, Margerethe is simply stubborn and will not be intimidated or curtailed into doing anything unwillingly. And her ‘fight’ was equally a fight for survival under the rulership of a madman as much as it was any principled stance over right and wrong. In contrast to that, she also bears a nuanced understanding of politics, both in her progressive learning of the political structure of Routaille, but also in the older ways of the Kingdoms of Trevast. It is with this understanding that she is able to temper her otherwise scathingly outspoken nature at times when a softer touch is necessary. This is the game she plays in her dealings with those who rule in her Son’s name, despite the detest she feels in her heart. In short, she is very much the type of woman to be heard, and one to not be underestimated. Also, if she smiles at you and you are not a member of her family, it is the course of wisdom to be afraid. Very afraid. Generally.
Biography: The Ice Queen of Routaille, as she is commonly known throughout modern Routaille (or the more derogatory ‘The Carrion Queen’), or ‘Margie’ to her close family, was born as the youngest child of three to the late Fydor Cassian IV. Being raised as the only girl with two older brothers (these brothers being of Cassian blood no less) cultivated within her a strength of will and determination that many noble women do not carry, or that they find through other means. While raised a lady of the court, disciplined in the etiquettes and intricacies of courtly living, she by necessity learned how to project her will and enforce it against her two brothers, although mostly against the brother closer to her age named Willhem. Ferrus, by and large, defended his sister, and as she grew older she grew quite capable at turning her two brothers against one another for her benefit.
Such a skill has remained with Margerethe to this day, with the importance of it evermoreso as she has seen the collapse of a Kingdom which had since stood for nearly fifteen centuries. While her son sits upon the throne and was proclaimed the monarch of Routaille, her stubborn nature, combined with her maternal instinct to protect her progeny as caused her to spin webs throughout the rising island nation. Her little spiders whisper in her ear, even as she rises in influence as a member of the ‘Crown’ political party of the general assembly, becoming a sort of political figure. While she goes to great pains to operate in a clandestine fashion, her overall goal is fairly obvious - to see her son become the monarch deserves to be, rather than a mere puppet in the hands of peasants.
