House Carraigh - History
Despite currently holding the title of Duke of Castelli a rank they have held since taking it from the previous holders, the House of Castelli three-hundreds years past, the Carraigh Dynasty do not hail from the lands they now control. Initially, or at least as far back as they can trace, coming from the Luskan Lands to their North, Carraigh was one of the many tribes brought to heel under the Valdez Emperor, Charles Ferdinand the First during the Valdez' time as Imperial Rulers. Moving further north after the assignment of land to them by their new Imperial Masters, they took to the forging of metal and became consummate contributors to the Valdezian Imperial Legion soon afterwards. Naturally, when the Imperial Throne fell out of Valdez hands, the favour of the Imperial House of Carraigh fell with it, and they pursued a violent rear-guard action as the Imperial Family fled south to establish the Kingdom now known as Valdez. Eventually called to heel by the once-Emperor mere weeks before his death, they settled in the Mountains of the Duchy of Castelli, and became Vassals to the ruling Family there, in an almost complete fall from power. Centuries passed, and the Carraigh kept their peace, before the great succession conflict of Castelli hit, in which the Duke died without issue - and open war broke out, from which the House Carraigh emerged as the victors. Over the centuries during which they have served as Dukes, it has become apparent that the House of Carraigh has sought higher office, and has grown ill at ease with the nature of some of the other Trevastine Monarchies, who often pursue an almost religious reverence of their Kings and Queens. As such, they converted to the faith of the Ramblers once it became widespread, as has much of their province. Such a leaning on faith has seen, during the times of the first War of Unification in Valdez, the Carraigh allowing refugees from hunted houses, and even the horse lords, to seek shelter in their lands - and even to form volunteer groups in the army. Following the Death of King Ferdinand du Valdez IV, the house announced that it would not be renewing its oaths of fealty to the new king, whilst Juan Carlos du Valdez was his unappointed regent. The Kingdom has split between Luska and Valdez centuries ago, with the rest of the Kingdom lost over the Western Mountains.
Suzerain of the Eternal City has been a title they have claimed since the outbreak of the succession crisis, seeing themselves as the natural protectors of the Eternal City until Juan Valdez steps down. Living Family Members -

Hedraeth Carraigh Grand Duke of Castille, Lord of Ard Caedywn and Warden of the North Born as the son of Duke Haymaer Carraigh, the previous Lord-Marshall of All-Valdez, and Grand Inquisitor of the most-Blessed deliverance, Hedreath Carraigh is a prideful and arrogant man, serving as the incumbent ruler of the Duchy of Castille. Formally styled as 'His Excellency, Carraigh, Duke of Castille, Patriarch of the House Carraigh and Warden of the North. For much of his upbringing he was focused on becoming the next Duke, and as such had styled himself in the traditions and manners of his people, in preparation for this new role. Soon after he rose to the rank of Duke, he engaged in a series of crackdowns on banditry in Valdez, as well as petitioning for his King - Ferdinand Du Valdez the Fourth - to enter into the Galathion-Cassian war, and bring an end to it by taking out the weaker side 'For the Glory of Artis'. When this did not go ahead, he vented his frustration by directly occupying the bordering town of Deavon which lay between his Duchy and that of a minor house under the Valdez. He is a widower, his wife having died in childbirth, the child also. Gaining popularity within the Military Nobility of Valdez, he was thus above reprimand by the Monarch himself, and was instead asked to take up the mantle of 'Warden of the North' in return for handing the lands he had occupied back to their original owners. Agreeing, he took on his new position and has held it ever since. Many within the military establishment see him as the natural successor to the Office of Lord-Marshall of Valdez, although this opinion is not shared by the Kings brother, Juan du Valdez. Soon after this, he became engaged to Elize Aquitane II, daughter of the Duke of Aquitania, and both states are formally allied. Personality and BeliefsHedreath is a staunch traditionalist, and very proud of his links to the land of his forefathers and the Duchy over which he now stands in leadership. Despite this, he believes that respect must be earned, and one is not simply owed it by virtue of one's title. A strong believer in the principle of 'Nation States' he has often spoken in favour of the Nobles having a greater say in the running of a Kingdom and prefers for Kings to act as 'Leaders' rather than 'Dictators'. Religious in the extreme, he believes in oath and bond, as well as the right one inherently has to enforce them through the strength of arms. He has often spoken, and acted against Juan Carlos du Valdez, who he refers to as the 'Apostate Prince'. A cultured man, he is well learned in matters Legal and Theological, and has penned several works on the merits of Nation States. He is a musical man, skilled with writing items for Court, and his works have been known to played in the Eternal City itself.

Karywn Carraigh Viscount of Ard Caedwyn, Marshall of the Order of Caedwyn Born as the younger brother of Hedreath, Karwyn had been destined for service in the army since a young age, and was Knighted and inducted into the Order of Caedwyn as soon as he was old enough. From there, by virtue of his rank as much as by his skill, he shot up through the ranks to one day hold the rank of Marshall. A comradely man, who is popular with his men - he is somewhat brutalist in his tactics, and spent a considerable amount of time in his youth leading forrays of Horse Lords in the Southern States across into the Badlands.
