Guildmaster Almas (“Alain”) Hedav Kaadi var Ramiel hevat Hadassah Wildeye
Appearance: Almas is a healthy Tlem man in his mid-thirties, who seems to delight in garish combinations of Tlem and Routais fashion. He carries himself with a boisterous and confident air that is hard to understand without seeing and hearing him in motion, when it becomes all too clear to any observer.
Biography: Almas was born to the Tlem Wildeye clan of Metreille, famous, even among the Routais, for their talents as brewers of mead. The Wildeye breweries made his clan one of the most prosperous in the city, but they did their best to help keep the other Tlem afloat too. Almas was a quick student in learning how first to make mead and then to sell it, and by seventeen he was practically running the operation himself.
Almas learned to understand and deal with Old Routaille’s society through this lens. Despite the Wildeyes’ heritage, Routais merchants were very interested in their product. Almas learned to be the Tlem they wanted to see, the one that was easy to negotiate with and unfailingly polite, despite it all. Even dealing with this, not every Routais merchant looked down their nose. One of them, Armand Cloutier, even allowed
Almas to marry his daughter in what most, Tlem and Routais alike, saw as an ill-conceived love match. The Wildeyes were long established in Metreille, so it was barely accepted there, but leaving the city at all became unfeasible for Almas.
For Almas, this became one problem among many. King Odo’s tyranny emboldened his nobles too, and the lord of Metreille especially. The Wildeyes became involved in local protests and riots against the government, and this culminated with the revolution itself. Almas was helping lead the charge to kick them out of the city, and fought for a place for the Tlem in the new government, but these attempts came to nothing with the Valdez occupation. Rather than taking it sitting down, Almas continued to resist as best he could: with smuggling, theft, confusion, anything to make them leave. And then, they did.
Routaille’s new government was not everything Almas had hoped for: there was still a Merov on the throne, after all, but it was a start. The Tlem had a place, and locally, Almas was elected in a landslide to become the Guildmaster of the Guild of Brewers, the Tlem and Routais alike supporting him. Now, he’s ready to begin the long work of making a better Routaille, and showing the world what the Tlem are capable of.
Personality: Almas has always been boisterous and outspoken, but never just to show off. His whole life, he’s had a purpose: learn the family business, run the family business, help those around you, and he’s never been shy about it. When he sees something that needs doing, he’ll be the first there, but he’ll hold back when he has too: growing up in Old Routaille taught him when to be quiet, but also taught him that things needed to change.
Skills: Almas is a master brewer of mead, an excellent businessman, and is shockingly charismatic (according to his grandmother, at least). He put these skills to use maintaining and growing first the family meadery and then the revolution in Metreille, and now is working on building a functional model for future Brewery Guildmasters to follow.
