Culture:
The Wildeyes emphasize charity and generosity in all things, and their success as brewers has only made this impulse stronger. Mead should make people happy whether that’s by drinking it or having the profits for selling it keeping your family warm and fed. The Wildeyes never left the Tlem district, and never forgot where they came from, and always strove to make things better, however they could.
History:
Clan Wildeye has been a fixture among the Tlem community for centuries, but really began to rise in popularity with the foundation of the Wildeye Brewery a century before Routaille’s revolution. Under the careful stewardship of the family elders, the Wildeyes began to produce a magnificent mead whose quality even Routais merchants could not deny. The family built a position in the city of Metreille that was usually comfortable, though always keeping to their appointed station.
The Wildeyes were not stingy with their success: they shared their prosperity with the local Tlem of Metreille, allowing their workers and families free “samples” and holding lavish celebrations for the best years of production. Even the local Routais were invited, though this tended to be courtesy only. Still, Wildeye generosity, and the prosperity they were bringing to Metreille, would not be forgotten any time soon.
With King Odo’s reign, however, things began to change. The lord of Metreille indulged his liege’s madness, and used it as an opportunity to encroach on the city’s businesses, especially those dealing with Tlem. When Routaille rose, Metreille became one of the centers of the new Revolution, with Wildeye approval and support having helped fed it. Still, that didn’t stop the Valdez’s attempted suppression and occupation of the city. The Wildeyes resisted that too, using their friends and knowledge to steal their supplies, confuse their patrols, and make the occupation an ever more expensive and unsustainable pain.
With the final peace agreement and organization of the new government, the Wildeyes reclaimed their place in Metreille and Routaille at large. With the gratitude of the city and a long history of brewing experience, Almas Wildeye was elected the first Guildmaster for the Guild of Brewers.
