(The following meeting occurred after Admiral Rooney and the Rumbrave captains had been briefed of the mission to Bassania)
---
With the exit of Commodore Bellona de Nemaine, Rooney had given her captains leave to go about their business with liberty. She'd made it clear that tonight was one for them to enjoy the comforts of Orleans, but to be ready for inspection early the next morning. Following the well-received orders, most of the captains went their separate ways, or grouped up and headed out into the port city. The auburn-haired woman, however, gestured for her First Mate, a large man by the name of "Caid", to follow her as she walked out of the tavern.
She wasn't certain what the man would do in his free time, but the privateer admiral wanted to at least go over what they'd learned with someone in her crew that would actually care. The two of them stepped out of the noisy alehouse, and Rooney walked down the docks in the direction of her flagship, with her hands hanging loosely at her sides.
"That was quite a meeting, aye?" she thought aloud and glanced up at the man, as she had gotten used to some years ago. "That Bellona woman seems to have it all figured out."
Walking a little further, the woman set a leisurely pace.
"Don't know if I asked, but have you ever been to Talcary, or Bashny?" Rooney asked the man. "Bit concerned these boys will be the harder folk that you used to work with. Might have quite a fight waiting for us if we're not careful."

"So it would seem," Caid said as he joined in lockstep with Rooney. His heavy footfalls and the clatter of his kit was the only response he gave for a short measure. He ordered his thoughts as he strode beside the admiral. For the entirety of the meeting, the man had assumed a statue-like demeanor, unmoving and silent. He'd simply watched as the events unfolded, marking the words of the Commodore and those of her newfound associates. "She doesn't strike me as the sort to suffer the presence of pirates in her waters, let alone her company. It makes me wonder just how much of this plan is calculated and how much is desperation." His resonant voice was soft in its utterance. Many might have mistaken it for diffidence but any member of the Rumbraves knew that Benjamin Kincaid was not a man who had to speak loudly to be heard. "Bringing Rackham and his ilk into this," Another pause punctuated the night as Caid rested his hands on the boarding hatchet at his side. "It's a mistake." Caid failed to expand upon his thoughts as he contentedly allowed silence to blossom between them again.
Caid looked down at the auburn-haired woman beside him. He often deflected questions about his pasts with clipped responses. This time he was more liberal in his tellings. "Aye, it was a favorite port of call back before you came along. I spent nearly three months in Bashny a number of years ago. Can't say I'd be any help navigating it once we make landfall. I was laid up in bed for nearly all of due to some breathing malady. Never set foot in Talcary proper. " Mention of men that once served with Caid elicited a nod from the giant. "It's nothing that the boys can't handle. My biggest concern isn't the men but those damned iron urchins. I've seen them scuttle more ships than I'd care to recall. They're simple but remarkably effective. I'd put all the money I've got on the Rumbraves to come out ahead in a fight. If we can't make it to the fight... That poses a slight problem."
"What do you think, ma'am? What's your take on all this?" Caid's usually solemn countenance broke, a mixture of curiosity and the slightest hint of concern painting his haggard features. "It's a once in a lifetime opportunity for the fleet, that's a given. Things could turn ugly in a heartbeat." Caid was confident in nearly all things but in something as large scale as this, he had his doubts. There were too many variables to be accounted for, too many hands on deck to keep a close enough watch. He didn't like it. He would serve though as he had for the last two years.
