Section 1: General Role-Play
A) This site is a role play, play by post forum.
B) "Out of Character" (Hereafter referred to as OOC) messages within an "In Character" (Hereafter referred to as IC) thread is to be kept at an absolute minimum. OOC Messages should be primarily posted in the Story - OOC Board.
C) Regarding controversial topics, such as rape, torture, pedophilia, excessive gore, etc., please steer clear of it as much as possible. That is not to say that torture or gore is forbidden, as this is a medieval fantasy rp board, but please keep it as PG and as non-graphic as possible. Topics such as rape and pedophilia are completely forbidden, and should not be included in any form within an rp. Please use common sense and good judgement.
D) Show equal respect to all members within this site, be they new, old, moderators, admins, etc. Just because someone is an admin does not mean they deserve to be treated like royalty, when you treat members like nothing. Treat everyone with common decency and respect, or 'how you would like to be treated.'
E) No one is permitted to setup a challenge where the conditions result in the loser being banned from the site. Bans are only disciplinary/deterrant actions taken by the admin team.
F) If your character dies within an rp, they are dead. They cannot be brought back to life under any circumstances.
G) The administrative staff reserves the right to lay out appropriate consequences as they see fit for the breaking of Role-Playing or Site Rules. Members who continue to violate the Role-Playing Rules will be issued a warning as their first offense. If members have been previously issued a warning, an infraction (point) will be issued against their account. Members obtaining three (3) infractions will be issued a 24 hour ban from the site. Each additional infraction that members receive after their third (3rd) infraction, will continue to result in bans, double their previous ban time. E.g. Forth (4th) infraction results in a 48 hour ban, fifth (5th) infraction results in a four (4) day ban, sixth (6th) infraction results in an eight (8) day ban, and so on. Members will be permanently banned from the site if they accrue 10 infractions. Please note that these parameters are exclusive to the violation of role play rules. For information regarding 'Terms of Service' rules, please read our Terms of Service Thread.
H) Killing, attacking or plotting against another character or group must be justifiable in-character. Out of character disagreements or issues are not be be used as in-character justification for attacking a character or member in the RP. Unjustifiable actions of this nature will be voided.
I) If there is an issue in a thread, attempt to resolve the matter with the other party. If the dispute is unable to be resolved, contact an administrator by using the report post function on the post relating to the dispute.
J) There are three different types of threads within this site. No matter which type of thread you create, it must be labeled as one of these types.
J.1) Ask threads are private narrative threads. The only members that may participate in an ask thread are those explicitly invited by the original poster. If someone posts within an ask thread but is not invited by the original poster, their posts will be considered null and void. Repeated offenses by a member regarding this rule will be dealt with on a case by case basis, but will always start with a warning. Repeated ignoring of this rule could result in a ban.
J.2) Open Threads are fairly self explanatory. Anyone may post within an open thread, although conditions may still be applied by the original poster. If the original poster wishes to keep the thread 'death disabled,' then this rule must be honored by anyone posting in it. If the original poster establishes context for the thread, that only those whose characters are of a certain status or house may post in that thread, then this rule must be honored. All 'preparation threads' must be open to allow for contestment. Exceptions may be made at the discretion of the admin team should there be any mitigating circumstances, but by default all prep threads are to be open unless the admin team rules otherwise for specific threads. Preparation threads will always be death enabled, maim enabled, etc.
J.3) Main Threads are massive, story affecting threads that usually involve some form of battle or combat. These are usually used as a climax to regional or global events. Please observe the rules under Section 7 before posting a main thread.
K) Meta gaming (i.e doing everything right, a character having knowledge of something even if it is impossible for them to do so) is not permitted in any form or fashion.
Section 2: Character Creation
A) Your characters are not God, they are not immortal and they are not invincible. They are mortal beings. If a character loses a hand, it will not grow back. A character cannot dodge every attack and cannot instantly kill people. Additionally, you may not automatically hit an opponent with an attack unless they refuse to acknowledge your attack when it has been proven valid and reasonable, and you have already attempted to resolve the matter through them and through the admin team.
B) "Mary Sue" characters are not permitted on this site. A "Mary Sue" character is one that is good at everything, never has anything unpleasant to them happen, and they typically take on the roles of brutal conquerors or benevolent heroes that win every battle they've ever fought. While there is nothing wrong with having a good character that is good at one or a few things, having someone that is good at everything as described above is unacceptable. It is a different thing altogether, however, if through the course of using that character, they come to be regarded as a 'brutal conqueror' that has never lost a battle. But that means you still need to adhere to our pvp rules, which will be addressed later.
C) When creating a character, please put time and forethought into that character. This site is meant to be an immersive rp experience, so let your creativity loose! Character sheets should be posted in the Characters board.
D)If you wish to create a character that belongs to one of the great houses of Trevast, please ask the creator of that House prior to doing so.
E) It is preferred that a character not start off with a huge amount of expensive arms and armor (unless they are the head of their house, in which it is still requested that moderation be exercised.)
F) Magic within the realm of Trevast is very understated, and is NOT prevalent. This may be subject to change depending on the timeline we rp in, and depending on the staff as we deliberate on the subject further. But as it stands, there are no 'mages' in this world. But other types of characters, as an example, are: assassins, knights, stewards, wanderers, archers, etc.
G) The admin team reserves the right to ask for changes to be made to characters, even retroactive changes.
Section 3: Houses
A) For the most part, the major houses of Trevast have already been crafted. At this time, we are not approving the creation of other Houses. We are, however, approving the creation of minor houses that serve as Vassals to these Great Houses. If you are interested in crafting a minor house, please contact the creator of the Great House you wish to be under and gain their approval before doing so.
B) Houses should adhere to the appropriate point values and templates as indicated in the Houses - Great and Small board. Profiles for houses should also be posted there.
C) The admin team reserves the right to ask for edits and changes to be made to Houses, even retroactive changes.
D) Houses are under the same 'Mary Sue' rule as outlined in the character creation section of these rules.
Section 4: Combat/PVP
A) Every attack must be permitted to be countered. Autohitting is not permitted on this site in any shape or form. The exception to this is if an attack made by one character is ignored by his combatant, and the combatant refuses to acknowledge it after you address it with them and it has been explained why it is reasonable for that attack to be made.
B) An attacker is not obligated to spell out their plan of attack, nor list when their opponent has made a mistake that can be taken advantage of. That being said, please do not exploit vagueness. If a detail requires clarification, it is common courtesy to ask for that clarification.
C) All rpers are expected to be reasonable and courteous during pvp threads. If it is not realistic for your character to block an attack made against them, then you are expected to be reasonable and take the attack. Threads that are derailed due to disputes will be moderated by the admin team. If, after repeated attempts to settle a matter, the problem persists, the admins reserve the right to make official rulings about the dispute and close the thread. This is a last case scenario of course. In the event of a casual and amicable dispute, dice rolling is also encouraged to settle the matter. Unless dice rolling rules are posted regarding the specific form of combat being engaged in, "house terms" are permitted as long as both parties are in agreement and the admin team is also in agreement with the decision.
D) Your character does not, nor will they ever have an infinite amount of arrows to shoot, nor will they have endless stamina. If your character engages in strenuous activity, that should take a toll on them physically and should be reflected in the rp.
E) Once a participant posts, the previous post can not be addressed for changes. For example, if metagaming is believed to have occurred in Post 1 and the opponent posts Post 2, the opponent has solidified the actions in Post 1 and cannot argue Post 1. This only applies to opposition. If a teammate of the poster of Post 1 posts Post 2, it does not exempt Post 1 from review. Any and all posts can be reviewed at the discretion of the admin team.
F) Writers are permitted to inquire about details regarding a thread. This includes, but is not limited to, participants, location of the thread, explanations for sections of a post, etc.
G) OOC deception will not be tolerated. Lying about circumstances in a thread OOCly will result in consequences. Deception still requires IC reasons. A character or writer cannot be targeted solely for OOC reasons. Espionage may be engaged in, however, and as long as the motivation is strictly IC, rpers are not obligated to divulge secret plans made IC, even if directly asked about an issue.
H) NPCs provide flavor to the rp. While player characters can be considered superior to npc's in some cases, please be realistic. Your knight cannot expect to fight twenty trained men at arms and come out unscathed. If you put your character into a situation where they could not exit alive or without injury, then you should expect them to get injured or possibly killed. NPC guards will have the skill expected of them. Having a skilled PC does not justify completely destroying or overpowering NPC protection, as long as it is within reason.
I) With the previous rule in mind, you are not permitted to setup 'perfect' npc defenses for yourself. Your character cannot be 'completely protected' to the extent where another pc trying anything would result in certain death. You cannot have an impervious or otherwise completely impenetrable fortification. It being 'perceived' as that is one thing. But it cannot actually be that way.
Section 5: Wars and Battles
A) Battles may not always be planned in advance. True to how things can be in real life, events can occur rather spontaneously. This is actually encouraged, as stated earlier rpers are not required to share IC motivations when they are engaged in a clandestine manner.
B) If you are attacking another House's defenses, you must have someone belonging to, affiliated with, or approved by the House, to role play the defenses.
C) Combat threads, small or great, are to have a absolute deadline to be enforced by the admin team. In combat threads featuring 1v1 engagements, a two week deadline will be in effect starting from the original posting date of the thread. Threads with featuring 2v2 engagements, or four members or more, shall have a three week deadline by default, starting from the original posting date of the thread. Extensions may be issued, and only be issued, by the admin team. If an admin is involved in the rp, then an admin not involved in the conflict must make the ruling. If this is impossible, the admin is expected to be as impartial and fair as possible, and to err on the side of caution, should endeavor to obtain a consensus.
D) Combat threads are, by default, maim-enabled, death-enabled, capture-enabled, etc. Any parameters contrary to these must be expressly stated in the original post of the thread, at the original time of posting. You cannot change the default parameters of a combat thread after originally posting it, and after the first response is made. Any edits to the original post (and the parameters therein) have to be done before then. If an edit is required at a later time to amend the thread parameters, come to a consensus with all rpers involved in the thread and notify an administrator to gain approval before doing so.
E) All participants within a combat thread are expected to post in a timely manner, especially considering combat threads have a time limit. For this reason, if a participant is due to post (i.e. it is their 'turn' to post) and fails to do so within 48 hours, their turn will be considered a 'pass' where their character does nothing for the duration of the round. The next member due to post will then have 48 hours to post from the time that the previous member's round duration expired. This 48 hour period can be negotiated as above, however, the absolute maximum time allowed between posts will be 72 hours. Additional time can only be granted by an administrator. "Gentleman's agreements" regarding time extensions do not apply with major battles, as only an administrator may issue an extension for that type of thread. For private duels, mutual agreements are permitted. If no agreement can be met, please contact an administrator.
F) Once the 2-3 Week deadline has been reached, a ruling should and will be made. If a consensus can be reached, a ruling can be agreed upon between the thread participants. If there is a dispute over the outcome of a thread, then a ruling will be made by an admin.
Section 6: Militaries
A) Militaries that belong to a House must fall within the parameters set by the 'House Creation' template, and the Category Rules Page.
B) Having a house is not mandatory to having an army. Mercenary bands/Independent Groups may be crafted as well. Under no circumstances would an independent group be of the same footing as a House in terms of military might, at least from the outset. Any advancements in numbers and equipment must be earned through rp situations.
Section 7: Events
A) Events are occurrences and happenings withing the realm of Trevast and beyond. There are three types of events:
1) A Global Event
2) A Regional Event
3) A Private Event
B) Global events are large scale happenings that can change the face of the realm, or at least have the potential to do so. These may include (but are not limited to) rebellions against the crown, massive invasions from an outside force, plagues, massive tournaments or festivals, etc.
B.1) Global events primarily serve the use of providing overarching plot lines for members to act within as their own character/house. In essence, they are prompts.
B.2) Freeform writing is encouraged with regard to global events, as it is only logical that your character would react and engage in certain actions in response to a Global Event. So do not hesitate to create your own threads and storylines to pursue your own narrative and explore your own stories using these prompts in mind.
B.3) Due to the 'far reaching' effect Global Events have upon this fantasy world, they can only be started by an rp admin. If you have a suggestion for a global event, or you wish to develop one and have taken steps to implement it by way of preparation threads, feel free to approach an admin about it so as to see your plan come to fruition. This 'admin posting' of Global Events rule is merely to prevent conflicting global events from occurring, and to safeguard the overall narrative of the site. It is by no means restricting your creativity as an rper.
C) Regional Events are smaller scale events when compared to Global Events, that typically only affect a given area or region within Trevast, or a small area outside of Trevast (Examples being: A series of bandit raids within the Crownlands, a small vassal house rebelling against their liege lord, a plotline that only includes characters of a specific house or region, etc.) These are, again, writing prompts to provide a basis for rp threads. For a regional event to be considered 'complete,' a minimum of two (2) threads must be completed. If the subject matter of these threads involves plotting/espionage type actions against another member/party, that person must be notified and they must be permitted to intervene if they so desire. If they do not wish to intervene, you are under no obligation to wait for them to carry out your plot. But they still hold the right to intervene at any time.
C.1) While they are significant enough to influence the peoples immediately in that region, Regional Events typically do not have the potential to affect the world or realm as a whole. However, if a member wishes to spark a global event to happen, they must first orchestrate and complete at least two (2) Regional Events that directly pertain to the Global Event they wish to start.
D) Private Events are essentially events with personal significance to perhaps a handful of characters, but bear very little significance to everyone else. Private events serve as the bedrock of all other types of events.
D.1) In order to spark a regional event, a member must complete at least one private event/story arc, which would include a minimum of (2) threads, either ask or open.
