The Golden Legion
Army: 1(+2) = 3 | Navy: 0 | Logistics: 5 | Loyalty: 5(-1) = 4
"As valuable as real gold": +2 Army | "Gold breeds greed" -1 Loyalty
Decades ago, a foreign mercenary company from the far east that called themselves the ‘Golden Company’ appeared on the shores of Trevast. While relatively few in number at the time, they quickly became both feared famed for their iron discipline and loyalty to their employers. As more and more were allowed to join, people started to refer to the mercenary company as ‘The Golden Legion’, a reference to both their blossoming size as well as the color of the armor they wore.
Today, most members of the Golden Legion are native to Trevast and its immediate surroundings, with almost all of its original members from the far east dead or retired. The origin of the original Golden Company has long been forgotten, although most agree that they originated from a nation near the easternmost side of the Boterin continent. However, it still sticks to the traditions of the old company, namely: the numerous blood red flags that each manipule carries and the radiant gold-colored armor that each soldier is required to don.
Weapons & Equipment
The Legion, which mainly consists of heavy infantry, outfits its members with golden half-plate and provides them with both shield and sword. Members are allowed to use their own equipment as they see fit, as long as it fits legion regulations. Many soldiers choose to carry two or three javelins in addition to their standard kit.
Leadership and Composition
In order to maintain a higher level of skill and discipline, the Golden Legion only accepts up to 3,000 soldiers at once. The Golden Legion itself is subdivided into two groups; one of which is the 'Legion' and the other being the 'Company'.
The Legion, sharing its name with the Golden Legion itself, numbers at 2500 men and is considered the face of the group. It is commanded by a Legate and is considered the more 'official' of the two groups due to its insistence on discipline, tradition, and fighting like a traditional army.
The Company, which derives its name from the Golden Company of old, numbers at only 500 men. It is lead by a Captain and is often leased out in parts. It was recently put together and features the best men the Legion has to offer. They are considered the 'core' of the already elite legion. Unlike their legion brethren, however, they are also considered much more flexible, and are thus capable of filling roles such as scouts, light infantry, and even skirmishers if needed by the employers.
Despite what their titles suggest, the Captain and Legate are considered equals when discussing matters of the Golden Legion as a whole.
